If you follow TSM, you will know we have talked before about the bigoted cowards who hide behind the thin veil of “Academia” or “Science.” Most of you probably remember TSM exposing the hypocritical bigot Matthew Franck. Now we are exposing the venomous hate against the transgender community from the Catholics under the guise of science. Richard P. Fitzgibbons, Philip M. Sutton, and Dale O’Leary collaborated to write an article for The National Catholic Bioethics Center, entitled The Psychopathology of “Sex Reassignment” Surgery.
Fitzgibbons, Sutton, and O’Leary, make the claim that:
Sexual reassignment surgery (SRS) violates basic medical and ethic
principles and is therefore not ethically or medically appropriate. (1) SRS
mutilates a healthy, non-diseased body. To perform surgery on a healthy body
involves unnecessary risks; therefore, SRS violates the principle primum
non nocere, “first, do no harm.” (2) Candidates for SRS may believe that
they are trapped in the bodies of the wrong sex and therefore desire or, more
accurately, demand SRS; however, this belief is generated by a disordered
perception of self. Such a fixed, irrational belief is appropriately described
as a delusion. SRS, therefore, is a “category mistake”—it offers a surgical
solution for psychological problems such as a failure to accept the goodness
of one’s masculinity or femininity, lack of secure attachment relationships in
childhood with same-sex peers or a parent, self-rejection, untreated gender
identity disorder, addiction to masturbation and fantasy, poor body image,
excessive anger, and severe psychopathology in a parent.
I would argue that these men do not understand what “primum non nocere, “first, do no harm” means. If we follow their argument, people born with diabetes should not be treated. People born with congenital heart defects, or cleft lips should not be treated. I would also like to point out that the American Medical Association (AMA) does not support this type of discrimination. In fact, the AMA fully backs a host of different support mechanisms for transgender people, including puberty blockers and SRS. If you have any questions or concerns, or know of someone that is working through gender identity issues, please contact
TransActive, or email me and I will find you some resources. There is no need to subject yourself or anyone you know to the bigotry of the Catholics.
