Lots of folks have networked here and found help. We need help. We have a rather large family and my husband has had two extended unemployment periods (six months each and current one stretching to month 7) since the recent financial crash. He has worked retail management, but having had long unemployment and too frequent job changes in the last 3 years, it seems that it isn't going to be a viable career now. He needs to do something else. He needs to make a salary that when paired with my own (mid 40s) is going to keep us solvent. Unemployment checks will stop in 11 weeks. Then we are in trouble. We have used cars and no credit card debt, butall my careful management and savings--well, the "rainy day fund" got spent. Nothing left. Home equity tanked with the real estate market so no hope or help there. I am working my but off. He has a bachelor's in Communications that has never really gotten him work in that field in 20 years. I think he has to get into a new line of work, but he is paralyzed about what to do or how to get there (esp. as quick as we need it).
So I need job leads in Maryland DC area, preferably with contacts. I need new career ideas that involve short retraining periods but relatively good entry level salaries. I need anything you can offer by way of help or advice. I have a pretty good job, in a field I love and am in school to become more advanced in that line of work, but that will take a total of five years(If I can keep getting some financial help on getting there). No immediate help.
