The Miami Herald reports on the latest twist in the battle between the Mayor and the Police Chief. Now the chief is claiming he's been offered $400,000 to leave the job quietly.
The battle between the police chief and the mayor began over a year ago, in April 2010, after a series of botched, high-profile public corruption arrests. The next month, the relationship deteriorated when Regalado pushed through an ordinance to allow video gaming slot machines to operate in the city — against the wishes of Exposito, who says the so-called maquinitas are a form of illegal gambling under state law.
Meanwhile, in the gun violence news, it's business as usual. Two dead and fourteen injured in two separate shootings.
The first call to police came at about 3:19 a.m. when Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to South Rock Lounge Bar and Grill, 3670 N. State Road 7, a Caribbean-American bar and grill in a Lauderdale Lakes strip mall, said Dani Moschella, spokeswoman for Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting began when two men got in an altercation and one of them drew out a gun. Then, the bar’s security guard also drew out his gun. A round of bullets was unleashed that killed the original gunman as well as the man with whom he was arguing.
Another 10 people in the bar were wounded by gunshots.
The second shooting happened at about 3:40 a.m. in a Riviera Beach adult entertainment club.
Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office detectives were summoned to Gold Fingers Gentlemen's Club, 8340 Resource Drive, after an altercation left one man shot in his foot, another shot in his lower leg and two women injured by shattered glass, police said.
Now, I don't read the Miami news every day, although I've lived there. But when I do take a look, it never fails. In addition to one of the biggest gun violence problems in the country, there's lot more going wrong down there.
WARNING: Please do not click on the following link if you're only going to bitch about it later. I especially direct this warning to those self-appointed DKos diary policemen, you know the ones who pretend to be interested in maintaining the quality of the diaries by enforcinig the "unwritten rules." Their real problem, of course, is an inability to accept a differing opinion. I think they're all involved in that RKBA group.
For anyone else who is interested, this is a wonderful award that was recently presented to the State of Florida, with a full explanation of how they earned it.
