My first diary, after lurking many years. I hope I don't screw this up.
Now, I don't normally watch CNN. But I was trolling the network while eating dinner, curious as to how they were covering MSNBC's Morning Joe drama. Since I knew MSNBC wouldn't. Other than a constant scroll shouting "Mark Halperin called President Obama a d**k" not much was going on.
Instead, I ended up in shock.
Jessica Yellin, obviously filling in for John King USA along with her new CNN position as chief White House correspondent, caught up with Gene Sperling, who was appointed by President Obama to be Director of the National Economic Council, for an interview. Here's how it went.
To set it up..she first played a montage of GOP Senators pontificating on the Senate floor today on how mean Obama was to them. Oh, they are soo mad!!
(This is not a 100% accurate transcript as I suck at short hand..but damn close)
Yellin: "So Republican leadership in Congress say they simply don't have the votes to pass a deal to raise the debt ceiling. That they are not being stubborn. They just don't have the votes. Mitch McConnell invited the President to come and meet with Republicans and the press secretary said it's not even worth the conversation. Why not take the meeting with the Republicans?"
Yeah. You know, why is Obama being so mean to them? He knows they can't vote for the debt ceiling legislation because nobody wants to vote for the debt ceiling legislation. What is that so hard to understand?
Sperling: "Yadda yadda, talking points, Obama just wants compromise, balance, shared sacrifice, everything on the table, we're all in this together. You know, like we've done in debt negotiations for decades."
Wait for it...and this is verbatim.
Yellin: "Part of this has to be politics. I mean, it just seems like a lot of posturing going on right now. And if this is as dire as the White House says it is, as it seems as if the capital markets says it is....."
Wait for it..
"Why not just give the Republicans what they want? Why not just cave and say 'you want only cuts? Fine. To save America and to save the economy, we'll give you the cuts, we'll raise the debt ceiling and fight another day on issues that matter to Democrats'."
Then my eyeballs popped out and rolled across the floor. The end. To his credit Gene Sperling managed not to punch her.
And that is Exhibit A as to why the MSM suck, the country is woefully ignorant and uneducated, and Republicans win every argument, no matter how unreasonable and vile they behave. God forbid the MSM entertain the idea that the GOP should cave. That the GOP should give in to save America. And Obama is the dick.
I wish I had video. You'll just have to take my DVR's word for it.
