If you're the FBI and you're in such dire need of training, for some reason, that you look to outside groups to work with cops and agents to teach you how to deal with the activist community, who are some of the groups you might call? Probably some respectable activist groups who have been working with law enforcement for decades, right? Activists with a reputation for doing good work and helping people out?
Well... not this FBI:
The F.B.I. said that members of an anti-gay church took part in training of police officers and agents, a move the F.B.I. says it will take steps to remedy. The church, Westboro Baptist of Topeka, Kan., contends God is punishing the military for tolerance of homosexuality and has protested at military funerals.
After blinking for several minutes, I was still very confused, so here I am posting this in the hopes that someone can explain what the "Fags in Hell" and "Thank God for 9/11"-spouting church is doing working with our federal law enforcement agencies.
And you wonder why gays distrust cops and our federal government? You wonder why Stonewall happened or why our activists are still chaining themselves to the White House fence to protest government sanctioning of a penalty for homosexuality and gender nonconformity?
I can't imagine what person thought this was a good idea.
No one could have anticipated that LGBT Americans would have a deep distrust of our system and its ability to affect change, when they use the fucking Phelps clan to train FBI agents.
Even ignoring the gay issue, the group thanks god for the September 11th attacks and protests the funerals of our military brothers and sisters who died in wars.
The FBI says they're going to take steps to remedy the situation. NOT working with the Phelps clan might be a cool idea, but who knows really?
