I hypothesize that it does. This is an experiment, not an argument. Based on the results of the survey, I plan to write a diary tomorrow making my argument, but at this time I am only arguing that this issue is worth studying.
What motivates the ideological divide here? On the one hand some people tend to be increasingly critical of the President's policies, while on the other hand there are people who seem to remain faithful to President Obama no matter what, and defend him all the more urgently when his policies take a stroll to the right. I have observed these two camps to be large enough to constitute samples of two populations of "types" of progressive, and I'm wondering if there is an income correlation to that divide.
In order to find out, I have devised a poll. From the results I will run statistical tests to determine whether there is a pattern of support or opposition to the President's leadership style based on income. I do not need to explain to participants what I think that style is. If you are on this blog you are informed enough to have your own opinion, which is what interests me. I want this to be as scientific as possible, so please do not respond unless you are prepared to be totally honest with yourself and the rest of us. I in turn promise to publish my statistical methods in such a way that people can judge for themselves whether I am exhibiting any bias that would distort the results. This will almost certainly fail to make the rec list, but let's try to get the word out to as many kossacks as possible using whatever ways we know. The more responses, the more meaningful the results will be tomorrow.
6:35 AM PT: As some in the comments point out, due to sampling limitations of online polls, this is only an "informal" study. That said, I am trying to make it as rigorous as possible, and informal polls can often provide useful information about groups that are otherwise impossible to collect data on.
8:13 AM PT: As Betty Pinson helpfully urges, please make sure you read all the possible choices before responding. Also, please make sure the button you push is directly adjacent to the text for which you are trying to vote.
10:17 AM PT: As some have pointed out, it's not clear whether retired people or people on disability should vote as unemployed or not. My answer would be, consider your government income as how much you are "making" as if you were employed. The poll is about the correlation between income levels and opinions on Obama. If you are receiving barely anything from SSI and/or Disability insurance, you might vote as unemployed, since for all intents and purposes your income is like that of an unemployed person on UI, for example.
10:30 AM PT: 200 responses and counting!!! Thanks so much everyone who's responed so far. Keep em coming!
