The GOP have held America hostage on every issue that has come before the Congress since President Obama was sworn in to office on January 21, 2009. The debt ceiling issue is no exception. Shall we recount the list?
Of course the list of hostage crises perpetrated by the GOP is much longer than this, but you get the idea. So what do we do? Continue the appeasement of GOP terrorists? No, it is time to marginalize them until we can produce a progressive Congress that will do its job, impeach the liars, scoundrels and outright crooks sitting on the Supreme Court, and prosecute the corrupt legislators who have been stealing from the rest of us and our children.
But I digress.
When you have a gun held to your head, just take the gun away from the terrorist. And that is exactly what President Obama can and should do today.
Oddly enough, that is exactly what Dean Baker and Ron Paul are suggesting, if not in so many words.
Wait. WTF? Dean Baker, trusted writer for the Guardian, HuffPo and Truthout agrees with Ron Paul, libertarian GOP wingnut? Yup.
President Obama can disarm the GOP by asking the Federal Reserve to simply destroy the $1.6 trillion in government bonds that it currently holds. Dean Baker explains why this is not only possible but makes sense in his article published by the International Relations and Security Network.
So, Mr. President, set the hostages free.
Lower the federal debt by $1.6 trillion by paying it back with money that we owe to ourselves. In the process, disarm the GOP terrorists who are trying to destroy the American economy just to "make [you] a one-term president," and demonstrate to every voter in America that you can stand up to the GOP terrorists equally as well as you stood up to Osama bin Laden.
