Local Snyder fundraiser email breaks law
TRAVERSE CITY — Area Democrats want to know why Gov. Rick Snyder used his staff and local county governments to spread invitations to a Grand Traverse County Republican Party fundraiser.
Greg Andrews, the governor's Marquette-based northern Michigan representative, sent an email to local governments that encouraged officials to attend the Governor's Breakfast on Saturday during the National Cherry Festival
Yes. That's right. The Cherry Festival.
Fun fact: We grow cherries on the West side of the state. Lots of them. Michigan leads the US in tart cherry production. They're used in maraschino cherries, cherry pie, cherry jam, cherry this and cherry that.
Cherries.
Oh yeah, and Rick Snyder broke the law. I suppose that's part of the news story, too, but a little less shocking.
As if the outrage over the changes to the Emergency Manager law wasn't enough to make the guy look like a freak who acknowledges no limit to his jurisdiction...now he's using local governments as his own Cash Machine. He's using taxpayer money to fund Republicans.
Ya know what Governor Snyder?
Ya know what?
You're welcome, Sport. If my tax dollars can't go to fundraising cash for the Republican Party AND giving bigger tax breaks to large corporations, what CAN they be used for? You know...OTHER than schools. And police departments. And feeding hungry families. And early education programs. And arts.
Yessir. Snyder broke the law.
His own spokesperson called the email "a serious lack of judgement."
Traverse City region Prosecutor Alan Schneider, that's Schneider with an SCHNEI not Snyder with an SNY, has said he will not take action opting instead for a stern look. Or maybe not a stern look.
Anyway, there's that. More Republican power grabs, more cronyism of people doing nothing about it.
In other news...Michigan has fantastic cherries. I'm going to go to the Farmer's Market tomorrow where there'll be at least a dozen varieties to choose from.
There are major recall efforts and events going on all over the state...
