I really can't take seeing the Sarah McLachlan video one more time. It fucking gets me every time. Some of us cannot afford to take in an animal, and some of us are not allowed by restrictive covenants, condominium bylaws, or rules set forth in leases. For those that can however, I hope you can find it in your heart to give a homeless, helpless creature a home. Even cats, and I really don't like cats (just kidding, but they are kind of indifferent towards me, which makes me insecure).
I guess what I'm getting at here, is that so many dogs and cats are euthanized every year because there are insufficient funds to keep them alive. You can do the easy thing and give money to the Humane Society and the ASPCA, but all that does is feed them while they stay locked in a small cage or space. While that is more humane in my opinion than killing them, I think most of them could be saved if we only took it upon ourselves to try. That being, don't buy pure bred dogs from breeders, and advocate the regulation of puppy mills.
I know now is not the time most of us can afford more mouths to feed but if you can, please do. I am so frickin' sick of crying every time I see the ASPCA commercial. We could end this problem now if people would step up, and also start spaying and neutering their pets, h/t Bob Barker.
So that's pretty much it, I've lost four dogs in my life who meant the world to me, and it pains me to think that there are so many pets (even cats) that could be loved if someone cared enough to take them in. I won't pile on by embedding the "Eyes of and Angel" video" but if you can't adopt a pet, then please donate to help them keep no kill shelters open.
Thanks,
YKMM
Edit: I seem to have repeated myself, so I deleted the earlier reference to Mr. Bob Barker.
