Way back in November, the loud mouth Alan Simpson was tickled pink with the new congress.
He was absolutely orgasmic over what was to come.

"This is going to be beautiful politics -- the brutal kind. I love those," said Simpson. "The debt limit... will prove who's a hero, who's a jerk, and who's a charlatan, and who's a fakir."
He then called the new Tea party members of congress,
"sharp cookies."
(Remember how we all groaned at that one?)
Simpson predicted they would refuse to vote for the debt limit extension unless they got significant spending cuts in return. The threat that the government would close down will not impede them, he said. "They'll say: 'That's what I came here for.'"
Simpson said he's looking forward to it. "I can't wait. It'll be something. And I'll be watching."
Flash forward to today:

"Everybody says, 'What in the hell is going on?'" Simpson said. "The American people are smarter than their politicians."
He also expressed misgivings about his perception that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., undermined Speaker John Boehner's ability to compromise with Democrats, saying, "The stuff that’s going on in my party, where the -– pettiness overcomes the patriotism -– it’s just disgusting to me."
Whatsa matter, Al? These are your smart cookies...this is the fight that you were hyperventilating about. You got your wish, what's your effin problem?
"Reagan raised taxes," Simpson said. "We’ve never had less revenue to run this country since the Korean war."
Hey man, they are smart cookies, ya know? You didn't seriously think they would agree to raise taxes did you?
Contrary to some Republcans expressing skepticism about the Aug. 2 default date, Simpson said that Treasurt Secretary "Tim Geithner ain't fooling."
Al, may I call you Al? Al, you may also want to check with the Republican Presidential candidates, they think he's fooling too.
"This is turning into a laugh except there’s nothing funny about it," he said.
Hmmm, that's funny, it's exactly what my husband said this afternoon when he was wondering what the people on social security will do if they don't get their checks.
