Yes, you heard it right. A few of us musical and composer types have had the idea of setting some of the best Daily Kos hate mail to music to be performed at NN 12 in Providence, RI. Now, this is just an idea I have been floating around. I cannot promise that it will be an "official" event, however I am announcing a working "Group" here on dKos to formulate a short Musical/Operetta based on the hate mail to be performed at NN 12 or somewhere else in Providence (if it doesn't get traction) during the conference next year. The idea is to raise money for our favorite Liberal cause, which the Group would determine. The official launch of the group will be this coming Saturday, to coincide with "Hate Mail".

Yes, it takes a year. Take it from someone who has written a number of musical theatre pieces. It takes co-ordination. Follow me over the fold for more on the introduction to "Hate Mail-a-Palooza: The Musical!

I had this idea (or "idear", as we pronounce it in New England) a while back, and talking to others such as virgomusic and Horace Boothroyd III, I have decided that I am willing to commit to composing a half-hour musical/light Opera based on the hate mail. We have so many talented musicians here and not just professional ones, but people who sing and play and do it all, that I think we may just be able to pull this off. And raise money for a good cause while we do it. Not to mention make people laugh.  Imagine "RUMSFELD!" "MOUSETITS!" As a winger pas de deux with singing! "Eat a Steak....etc" set to good down home Southern Gospel! Oh, the possibilities!

A bit about my background: I am a classically trained composer, conductor and organist/pianist/harpsichordist but worked in regional and renegade theatre for years and have written many "camp" musicals. This is up my alley. It's up yours, too...

Be watching for the launching of the working group. We will need help. Talent, really.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
