Decided to do a little oppo-research today.
What passes for Tea Party resistance, seems to be based on a lot of Mis-information.
Tea Party Supporters: Who They Are and What They Believe
by Brian Montopoli, cbsnews.com -- Apr 14, 2010
CBS News and the New York Times surveyed 1,580 adults, including 881 self-identified Tea Party supporters, to get a snapshot of the Tea Party movement. [...]
53 % of Tea Party supporters describe themselves as "angry" about the way things are going in Washington, compared to 19 % of Americans overall who say they are angry.
Asked what they are most angry about, the top four answers among Tea Party supporters who identify as angry were
-- the health care reform bill (16 %),
-- the government not representing the people (14 %),
-- government spending (11 %) and
-- unemployment and the economy (8 %).
[...]
64 % believe that the president has increased taxes for most Americans, despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans got a tax cut under the Obama administration. 34 % of the general public says the president has raised taxes on most Americans. [...]
Poll Reveals Most Americans Don't Know They Got a Tax Cut
by Robert Hendin, cbsnews.com -- Feb 12, 2010
[...]
Here's the poll question:
"In general, do you think the Obama Administration has increased taxes for most Americans, decreased taxes for most Americans or have they kept taxes the same for most Americans?"
The answer:
-- 24 % of respondents said they INCREASED taxes.
-- 53 % said they kept taxes the same
-- And 12 % said taxes were decreased.
Of people who support the grassroots, "Tea Party" movement, only 2 % think taxes have been decreased, 46 % say taxes are the same, and a whopping 44 % say they believe taxes have gone up.
Those answers must frustrate the president who has highlighted its tax cuts for the middle class in almost every speech.
[as Obama has said: ]
"Now, let me repeat: We cut taxes,
-- We cut taxes for 95 % of working families.
-- We cut taxes for small businesses.
-- We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers.
-- We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children.
-- We cut taxes for 8 million Americans paying for college."
And among the sources of Tea Party Mis-information, surprise, surprise -- Tea Party Supporters cite Beck and Palin as the sources for much of their wisdom ...
Poll: Tea Party Activists Small But Passionate Group
by Stephanie Condon, cbsnews.com -- Apr 14, 2010
[...]
More than half of Tea Party activists (55 %) say the amount of income tax they have to pay this year is unfair. Among Tea Partiers as whole, 42 % feel that way.
Unlike Tea Partiers overall, these activists hold a net negative view of the Republican Party. Fewer than half -- 44 % -- view the party favorably, while 50 % have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party.
But the most active Tea Partiers hold especially favorable views of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, and 50 % think Sarah Palin has the ability to be an effective president.
[CBS News/ New York Times poll shows.]
That explains a lot -- 50% of the angry Tea Party Demographic, thinks President Palin would be just swell. Talk about a major disconnect with Reality.
I wonder who will be stirring that Anger Pot this year, now that Beck and Palin are effectively becoming last year's News? Any Guesses?
Bachmann, Perry, or the perennial source of misguided Info, the $4oo Million Dollar Shill -- Rush Lintball ?
