This is what the President had to say and all hell broke lose on the debt ceiling negotiation and just loved watching the feckless Republicans scramble for cover:
The Social Security comment was not accidental; Obama, in an interview with CBS News, said he could not guarantee that Social Security checks would be mailed if Treasury loses borrowing authority after Aug. 2.
"This is not just a matter of Social Security checks," Obama said in the interview broadcast Tuesday. "These are veterans' checks; these are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out."
"This is not just a matter of Social Security checks," Obama said in the interview broadcast Tuesday. "These are veterans' checks; these are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out."
When CBS anchor Scott Pelley followed up by asking, "Can you guarantee as president those checks will go out on August the 3rd?" Obama said: "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on Aug. 3, if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it."
Gots to love Lawrence O'Donnell's take down of Mitch McConnell:
Oh man...is this guy on fire or what? I have seen the host of the MSNBC cable program, the Last Word, Lawrence O'Donnell perform for a long while now and I have to say I have not seen him on fire like I have seen him in the last two days dissecting the Republican's hypocrisy. You have to hear it yourself in order to really get a feel for what is I am talking about. However, here is the narrative: President Obama has been flawless as he has always been in his dealings with the Republicans and especially regarding the debt ceiling stand off cooked up by the obstructions party. The President has indeed outsmarted and out strategized these fools as they are taking back their suicidal made for teevee positions, with their tails between their legs, showing exactly what they are all about -- a party that does not give a shit about anyone except the rich with all their political posturing.
Well, Lawrence has made it clear how the President political astuteness has indeed made the whole world to see that the Republican party does not stand for fiscal responsibly. I would like someone to tell me after you watch this video below how President Obama is not a damn fine politician. Here is a quote straight from Lawrence's mouth worth reading:
[Part transcript transcribed by me]
VP Joe Biden spent weeks entertaining discussions of massive spending cuts as much as $3 Trillion in spending that it is now clear that the White House had no intention of ever actually agreeing to, in the end because the White House always knew that the Republicans would never agree to the White House tax revenue proposals and in a world "nothing is agreed to until every thing is agreed to" [Obama's quote], the White House knew nothing was going to be agreed to.
In a world where nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to, the White House actually has agreed to nothing, not one penny of spending cuts, not one. Still, the White House was clever enough to leak that the notion that it was willing to entertain spending cuts that President Obama was willing to bend over backwards in the Republican direction and think about spending cuts in Medicare, in Social Security, those ideas horrified some Democrats in Congress and many Obama supporters in the blogs sphere. But, just today, the normally astute Republican Leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, finally began to catch up with the President strategic maneuvering.
/
[so what did Sen. Mitch McConnell said:]
I would advocate that we pass legislation giving the President the authority to request of us an increase in a debt ceiling that would take us to the end of his term.
/
[You got to love Lawrence's take down of Mitch:]
Strategic flip flops does not get bigger than this in the Senate. That is right, you just heard Mtch McConnell say, he is willing to give the President everything, everything that the President wants but not exactly in the form the President wants. The McConnell plan for raising the debt ceiling would occur in three stages over a period of many months including a final third vote next year in the election year which the President does not want. As designed by McConnell, Congress can actually try but it will fail, but try to claim that it wasn't actually voting to increase the debt ceiling at all.
The tricky McConnell plan will ask Congress to vote on a resolution disapproving first a $700B debt increase in the debt ceiling and then two other $900B increases in the debt ceiling. McConnell expects the majority in Congress would cast that easy vote to disapprove those resolutions calling for raises in the debt ceiling. He then suggests the President would of course simply veto Congress's disapproval of increasing the debt ceiling. And, by vetoing Congress's disapproval, there will be an increase in the debt ceiling.
Now, there isn't a teapartier out there who is not smart enough to see that McConnell's plan to voting to disapprove raising the debt ceiling is actually Congress's way of enabling the President to raise the debt ceiling[actually there are a lot of dumb ass teapartiers out there]. The McConnell Plan would also attach to the resolution the requirement that the President specify the budget cuts he would suggests making in the amounts identical to the increase in the debt ceiling but the spending cut the President would identify the President would not, would not, be required to actually execute. McConnell's position as of tonight is to raise the debt ceiling in exact amount the President has specified he wants without requiring any spending cuts at all. Not a requirement of one dollar in spending cuts. NONE. ZERO.
That was identical to the original Obama Administration position on raising the debt ceiling.
So what was all the drama about refusing to raise the debt ceiling because we want to be fiscally responsible? POLITICAL POSTURING!

President Barack Obama collected $86 million combined for his re-election campaign and the Democratic Party during the past three months, giving him a large fundraising advantage over the Republican field seeking to challenge him in 2012.
Obama raised more than $47 million and the Democratic National Committee brought in more than $38 million through the end of June, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a video posted early Wednesday. Obama's team had set a public goal of $60 million combined.
The fundraising totals outpace Republicans, who have collectively raised about $35 million so far, although some candidates have yet to release their results.
We have to continue busting their chops in every way to repeat 2008. You may not like the sound of this but money buys votes. If we have the $$$, we can reach out to as many voters as possible so please do what you can and don't forget to do your small donation preferably here:

They thought we would be ashamed of being called an Obamabot for supporting this amazing president:
well, I don't know about you but I am a proud Obamabot because...hummmm, well, you have to read Confessions of An ‘Obamabot’” – by Leisa Simone to understand what I am talking about:
Over the years, I’ve been called a liberal as if it’s an insult. I’ve also been called a libtard, a Dumbocrat, a hippie, a socialist, a tree-hugger, a bleeding heart, a gay-lover, etc. And I’ve embraced each one. All these were directed at me from people on the right.
Now I find out that I’m an Obamabot. That’s someone who defends the current President of the United States, OUR president of OUR country. But this time, it comes from the left.
I embrace that word, too. But let’s examine what this “mean-spirited” insult actually means.
An Obamabot is someone who may disagree with some of the decisions our president has made, but at the same time, knows and understands why they were made. And we support him for them.
An Obamabot is someone who remembers how the president extended the Bush tax cuts to protect the unemployed from the GOP. Look it up.
An Obamabot remembers the hysteria from the left in April over the rumors that the president would defund Planned Parenthood as the GOP was demanding before they’d agree to stopping a government shutdown. An Obambot remembers those two words the president said to Boehner that finally put the issue to rest as Boehner demanded funds to Planned Parenthood cease: “Nope. Zero.” And Boehner was forced to back down. Look it up.
An Obamabot is perfectly aware of the president’s very long list of achievements and lauds him for them. And damn if we’re aren’t proud to say he’s our president. Look them up.
Read more, you won't be disappointed.
