One of the first pieces I ever wrote here was a brief account of David Hanson's remarkable, interactive Phillip K. Dick android and the loss of its head on a flight to Las Vegas.
I had hoped, however long a shot that hope might have been, that some reader here might have encountered the head on a flight out of town after attending what was then called "YearlyKos."
No such luck.
I hadn't thought about Hanson, the head or the story for years.
Then, tonight, while looking for odd images for a new video, I stumbled across a pic I took of the original head not long before it vanished from the earth. Wondering whatever had happened to Hanson and the PhilBot, I googled "Phillip K. Dick Android" and was delighted to discover that the droid has risen again!
As of January of this year, the new and improved Dick android "New Phil" has been up and running. It is, in truth, a good deal better looking than "Old Phil" but with the same, somewhat cynical outlook as the original (and the original).
My heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Hanson on the resurrection, and best wishes to New Phil for a long and happy virtual life.
Just try to keep your head, old boy.
