laughin' all the way to the bank
Perry Watch Edition
Earlier I wrote about
why Romney really isn't the one to fear in 2012. I pointed out that Rick Perry has met with
the Koch brothers, has the
blessing of the religious right, and
has a SuperPAC called "Americans For Rick Perry" to act on his behalf. And now there are more news about Rick Perry's imminent run for President. The press is eager to set him up as the frontrunner in the race,
noting that he's come up pretty fast in the polls even though he hasn't officially declared.
Mitt Romney at this point has stalled out, and he does not really excite the tea party base or the religious right. And Michelle Bachmann is getting unpredictable by the hour, which isn't what the money boys in Texas, New York, DC, and California want. They want their stable puppet, and they've got it in Rick Perry.
The money boys are meeting in Austin right now to figure out how much cash they can raise for Rick Perry if he runs for President. Even though they may be limited in how much they can raise by the FEC, they've got that SuperPAC loophole, and endorsements by notable Republican figures such as Rudy Giuliani could help bring in the money Perry needs to compete.
His fundraising base in Texas gives Perry a foothold in one of the most donor-rich states in the country. With Giuliani making introductions for him in New York City, Perry would almost certainly have the financial foundation he would need to make a credible run – particularly given some of the less-than-inspiring sums reported over the past three months by his would-be rivals for the nomination.
Less obvious, but perhaps no less important, for Perry’s chances of winning the Republican nomination is the boost that a Giuliani endorsement would give him on the national security front.
With Giuliani onboard along with the Koch brothers, and the Texas and New York donors, Rick Perry would certainly have the cash and the support of secret SuperPACs to go after President Obama on the economy and other issues. Many people here too easily dismiss Rick Perry out of hand, painting him as a bombastic Texas politician, but let me tell you, it would be a mistake to underestimate him. Kay Bailey Hutchison underestimated him when he was twenty points behind in the polls until he decimated her, and so did Bill White in the gubernational campaign.
You don't treat Rick Perry with white gloves, you treat him with punching gloves instead, which is what most of his opponents in Texas really haven't done. And that's what we need to keep in mind.
After all, America re-elected Bush, and Rick Perry is following exactly in the same steps that Bush took as Governor when he was running for President. He's
making us Texans pay out the nose with our taxpayer money for his security expenses which he refuses to disclose while he gallivants all over the country on his campaign.
Even while those on the front page claim that there's bad blood between Perry and the Bushies, it's not true, and those are stories fed from Rick Perry's camp so that Perry can say that he shares nothing in common with President Bush (except he actually does). Perry has the full backing of the Bush machine, as you can see early on in this campaign ad that features Perry and then-Governor Bush when his Lieutenant Governor bid was in need of rescuing. And Rick Perry just recently met with former Bush official Douglas Feith and others to learn about foreign policy.
This is Rick Perry's past, and he's still got the connections from his past going forward into this campaign. This man is dangerous, and he's got the money boys behind him. This isn't a kook to laugh off. He's no Michelle Bachmann, and most certainly not Romney.
I just simply cannot risk the next four years under a Rick Perry presidency. We here in Texas have suffered greatly under Perry, while he made himself a millionaire thanks to the good ol' boy system. Please spread the word about Rick Perry's record, and why he would be a disaster for us as President of the United States with his hand on the red button, with the other on the nuclear football.
I mostly certainly will be spreading the word about Rick Perry. We can't afford another Bush in the White House. And that's what it comes down to.
