defending himself 'forthright'
Yesterday, Rep. Allen West (R-18th century) made a bit of news with a strange, crabby and pointedly insulting email to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz saying, among other things, "you are not a Lady."
Not willing to settle for merely being a laughingstock ("I shall defend myself forthright"? Who talks like that?), today West continued his valiant battle against both Wasserman-Schultz and basic common sense. HuffPo:
His campaign sent out a fundraising appeal playing up what a dickbag bad ass he was in calling Wasserman Schultz "vile." Then, he told The Huffington Post's Jen Bendery that he had actually apologized to the DNC chair. But wait! Neither the DNC nor Wasserman Schultz’s office received an apology. Sure enough, West’s office clarified that people would have to be stupid to think he’d be so gracious. "Absolutely false," West's spokesperson Angela Sachitano said of West's own statement. "The Congressman is waiting on an apology from the Congresswoman."
So West told HuffPo that he had apologized to Wasserman-Schultz. But he didn't, and his office "clarified" later that nope, he didn't. But HuffPo has the audio (linked above) proving he most certainly did claim it to them.
What to make of this? Who knows. But at the least, Mr. West, I don't think telling fibs to reporters is very Gentlemanly.
