This will be cross-posted on my blog, wantsomewood.blogspot.com.
The N.R.A. is right. Guns are the only thing standing between us and tyranny. The only thing that dictators and authoritarian governments understand is the bullet. The Second Amendment is the one that secures all the others, and is therefore the only one that is important.
Liberals who are anti-gun control are right as well; the Bush Administration shows how close America can get to tyranny, and this demonstrates that liberals need to rethink their adversarial relationship with guns and gun owners.
After all, nonviolent demonstrations have succeeded against totalitarian governments only in Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, India, South Africa, Serbia, Portugal, the Philippines, Ecuador, Ukraine, Botswana, Tunisia, Egypt, and the United States.
UPDATE: Just to be clear, this is meant to be sarcastic; I am pro-gun control and pro-nonviolence, and my point is that the N.R.A.'s idea of the world is deeply flawed. I have a major disagreement with anti-gun-control liberals, as well.
