The Daily Kos Free Rice Team was started two days ago, and we have 24 members and have earned 133,000 grains of rice. That's enough to feed seven people for a day. Or one person for seven days. That ain't chicken feed. Well, maybe it could be, but it's not.
For those who missed my diary two days ago:
FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Programme. The purpose is to raise rice for hungry people in third world countries. You test your vocabulary or knowledge in other subjects. Every time you get an answer correct, 10 grains of rice are donated by the organization.

Yesterday Boodah's diary gained us a few more members when she wrote:
I had to step away from my computerfor about a half-hour after reading the invectives, missives, and insults fired off in the comments of this rec-listed diary. Feeling helpless about what to do WRT to the debt ceiling, helpless about what my own district's elected officials do despite my letters and calls and emails, and helpless about this site's constant community infighting, I decided, fuck it, I'm going to help people in the only way I feel I can really make a difference.
I can really relate to that. I love the Daily Kos community, but sometimes I feel like the negative diaries outweigh the positive. I suggested in a comment that she join the Free Rice site for the Daily Kos Team and we picked up 8 more members!
We have some really good players. Our top scorer has single handedly earned 26,530 grains of rice.
I've always prided myself on having a good vocabulary, but I can see that I need a lot of work. The category that I find myself doing best at seems to be famous paintings. I guess the Introduction to Art class I took in 1972 is really paying off.
I'm not one of the best players, but today my husband bumped my score up by 2000 points practicing his high school German. He said it was a good review and he will start his own account tomorrow.
Our team is now ranked number 690 out of over 8000 teams. To join:
