Just to give you some perspective: I graduated from the Naval Academy in 1981. During my time there, the election of Ronald Reagan was VERY popular, even though his opponent (Jimmy Carter) was an Academy graduate.
I left the Navy a year early in 1985 after getting my 4'th knee operation; fortunately the Navy doctors did a good job with the knees.
I then went to graduate school in mathematics and lost track of my former Navy classmates....
more below the fold...
Then came facebook, and the class of 1981'ers met up once again.
But then I started to read what they said on their walls. The vast majority are very conservative.
Mostly, they see taxes as taking wealth from those who earned it and giving it to the undeserving. Remember: this is the group who had a free ride (with stipend) at taxpayer expense and then drew a government paycheck; many work for defense related industries.
They have the gall to complain about taxes and about the government taking THEIR money.
Now tonight, some actually complained that those "making 250K or more per year were paying MORE than their fair share."
I had enough.
I unfriended the whole lot of them and removed my college identifier from my profile; I want nothing to do with them.
I am deeply ashamed that I graduated from a school that evidently fostered an attitude of selfishness, greed and entitlement.
7:51 PM PT: Update: one of my former "friends" just sent me a message that he say our president "lying at every turn" and he sent me a friend request. It is all I can do to keep from replying "*uck off"; then again this person thinks that the world is 6000 years old.....
Life it too short to be around them.
