Have you ever noticed that when John Boehner is peddling one of his tea party talking points, he always insists that he is doing—never mind that
poll after
poll says otherwise—exactly what the American people want? Well, it's true. Assuming the American people are a Viagra-dependent blowhard named Rush Limbaugh.
Because over the past several days—as Boehner and the Republican party hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage—it seems that he has spent more time consulting with Limbaugh than coming up with a plan to avoid putting us, as Boehner once put it, "in an awful lot of jeopardy."
On Friday, while refusing to take a phone call from the President of the United States, Boehner was phoning in to Limbaugh's show to:
... give him the inside scoop following reports that Republican leaders and the White House were close to finalizing a deal.
And during yesterday's radio show, after a multitude of childish insults directed at Obama and Harry Reid, Limbaugh bragged about a phone call he had received from Boehner that very morning:
Well, this morning about an hour and 15 minutes ago, I answer the phone -- and on the other end of the phone line was the Speaker of the House, John Boehner.
Congressman Boehner, the Speaker, filled me in on what is the latest proposal on the table.
How special. The Speaker of the House privately briefs a radio host on the state of negotiations to avoid having the U.S. default on its obligations for the first time in history—before he bothered to brief his own conference. Saying he briefed him is probably too kind. Sought approval is more like it.
And today it looks like Boehner was given permission to personally assure the base that he won't make a move without Limbaugh:
You know, last night, after Boehner gave his
factually challenged response to Obama's speech, he was heard whining
that he didn't:
... sign up for going mano-a-mano with the President of the United States.”
So why doesn't Boehner just cut out the middle man and let Limbaugh run the GOP? After all, he's been doing it unofficially for years.
