Really? This is what the Republican caucus
look to for inspiration in going against President Obama by passing the Boehner bill by watching a movie clip about robbers? I guess it's pretty apt, and they are at least sort of honest to themselves.
House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the party’s vote counter, began his talk by showing a clip from the movie, “The Town”, trying to forge a sense of unity among the independent-minded caucus.
One character asks his friend: “I need your help. I can’t tell you what it is. You can never ask me about it later.”
“Whose car are we gonna take,” the character says.
After showing the clip, Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), one of the most outspoken critics of leadership among the 87 freshmen, stood up to speak, according to GOP aides.
“I’m ready to drive the car,” West replied, surprising many Republicans by giving his full-throated support for the plan.
Brian Beutler at TPMDC notes what the WAPO reporters helpfully left out about the bolded movie quote:
A couple things. First, that's not the complete movie quote. Here's the complete quote:
Doug MacRay: I need your help. I can't tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we're gonna hurt some people.
James Coughlin: ...Whose car we takin'?
How helpful it was of those Washington Post reporters to leave out the rest of the movie quote.....
So, the Republican caucus are fully primed thanks to a movie scene about robbers ready to hurt people, and ready to go after President Obama by voting on the Boehner bill which they previously had decried. The Republican angst over the Boehner bill was all for show, and they'll fall in line to get it through the House and to the Senate to make the Democrats vote against it.
What a colossal mess.
