Georgia state representative Bobby Franklin was found dead yesterday in his home in Cobb County yesterday. He leaves behind his wife and three children. There were no signs of foul play but the authorities do not yet know the cause of his death.
In case you have no idea who Bobby Franklin was, he was the man who advocated a law that would make miscarriage a crime. In short, he was just another right-wing extremist that was attempting to not only ruin this country, but take away the reproductive rights of women. While I did not agree with his policies or his religious faith, I understand that even though I saw him as a monster, he was a human being. He was someone's husband. He was someone's father. He was someone's child. He will be missed by them and even though I found his political policies disgusting, I hope that his family will not remember him as the man who wanted to charge women who have miscarriages with a crime. I'm sure they won't.
However, the people who have followed his political career will probably remember him as such. If anything, I think it is a shame that he could've spent what little time he had serving the people of Georgia in a way that helps women rather than treats them like criminals. I wish that his legacy would've been different than what I believe it will be. Bobby Franklin made his decisions based on what he thought was right. I don't think he made his decisions on what he thought would help the people. So I sympathize with his family for their tragic loss and I mourn the positive political career that he never got to be a part of. Moving forward, there will probably be a special election soon to fill his seat. I do not believe that a democrat will win it, but I could be mistaken. However, I hope that whoever fills his seat does not follow in his footsteps of advocating highly anti-woman policies.
