Angry? Have you had just about enough of the bullshit?
MoveOn's DC Progressives Council is taking it to the streets. I joined this list when I moved back to DC because I wanted to be alerted anytime there was a rally, since I'm on 1.5 miles from the Capitol. This is what I got in my box last night.
MoveOn "American Dream" event on Thursday, July 28th, at 12PM (east side)
The given address for the event is:
Don't Destroy the American Dream!
East side steps of Capitol Building
First Street NE (East side Capitol steps)
Washington, DC 20004
Other progressive organizations will also be participating. Many of you have probably already read the notice on this. The subject is, keeping the American Dream alive, specifically, telling Congress not to cut the funding for medicaid, medicare, social security, i.e. not to sacrifice the economic middle class (and economic lower class) in favor of continued tax breaks for the wealthiest corporations and wealthiest Americans. This is tourist season in Washington, so this is a good way to show Congress that we are getting the Progressive point of view on the national debt, and the debt ceiling issue, in front of the citizenry.
For people who are interested in helping to set up for this event, (post signs and so forth,) please come early. The regional field organizer, Jessica Stein, will be there, and I will be there, at around 10:30 AM, but it would be good if some more people could come early. More important than coming early, however, is simply to come. 12 PM is when it starts. Add you presence to this event. Use your lunch hour to come. No one needs to emphasize at what a critical point our country is at this juncture, with the tea party holding us hostage to their extremism and down right irrationality.
6:13 AM PT: Hey Folks. I have to step away to take dad to physical therapy. I'll be back my noon. heh.
Please spread the word about this protest. If you live in or near DC or know anyone who does, contact them. Share this diary on facebook and twitter too. And if you can't do that, at least rec the darned thing so people can know there's something going on. Thanks. The more people we have there, the better.
6:14 AM PT: OH. And one more thing: if anyone is coming that has portable speaker I can plug into my iphone, please PM me. I'll create a "protest playlist" for the rally.
