I've written before about Kevin Keller, the gay character whom Archie Comics introduced this past year in an issue of VERONICA. He proved popular enough in his initial appearance that Archie Comics gave him a four-issue limited series, which is currently running.
Well there's more, Riverdale fans. Archie has announced that starting next February, Kevin will get his own ongoing series.
Jon Goldwater, the co-chief exectutive of Archie Comics, says that the reader response to Keven has been very positive with only seven cancellations. His own comic will establish Kevin as his class's president, and he will also appear as a supporting character in other titles. The Alternate Future "Life With Archie" series, in which a post-high school Archie is married to Veronica, will show Kevin married too.
And if that weren't dismaying enough to the Religious Right, in an unrelated move, Archie Comics will also be publishing a four-issue limited series in which Archie Meets KISS. Man; does it mean I'm old that I find that depressing?
