In my opinion, Fareed Zakaria is one of the most thoughtful commentators in the media today. When he speaks, I listen to him as closely as I listen to Krugman. Last night on CNN he gave one of the most honest interviews I've heard in the main stream media in a long time. I think Anderson Cooper was taken aback by the directness of Zakaria's comments. The link to the interview is below. There's no false equivalencies, no fair and balanced, it's simply Fareed speaking the truth. Listen to the interview here:
Fareed Zakaria interview
Here's a summary of some of the points in the interview:
They'll blow up the country
They'll hold the credit of the U.S. hostage
Others say they are counter constitutional
They hijack the entire system
They don't understand the workings of democracy
They have not been elected as dictators of the U.S.
fundamentally anti-democratic, counter constitutional
extraordinary act of hostage taking
They've already damaged the good standing of the U.S.
Fareed Calls on Obama to invoke 14th Amendment
It's a national emergency almost like a war
Tea Party congressman relies on "magic" with their claims
When commentators speak from their heart, speak the truth, and reject the false equivalency that dominates the media, we need to thank them for their great work.
Here is a link to a feedback page for Anderson Coopers show. Thank him for having Fareed Zakaria, a most thoughtful commentator, on the show. We often need to give as much positive feedback as we do negative.
