I was writing this to a friend and I thought I would share it to see how you all felt.
Just in the last few days it seems there’s be a huge shift in what it is acceptable to say about the dept crisis in the mainstream media. Maybe it’s the realization that the GOP and tea party wingnuts are willing to push the country over the cliff and some sense of what that could actually mean. Part of it maybe be the realization that a house has just landed on Rupert the wicked witch of the east. But clearly things have shifted.
There are articles in USA Today, NY Times, Politico, NPR and you’re hearing it from a lot of different quarters. They’re saying, Republicans and Democrats are not equally responsible for the dept. Most of the problem was created under Bush and shortfalls in revenue caused by tax cuts are a huge part of the problem. Now that’s no revelation to you and I but, it is contrary to the right wing echo chamber’s accretion that somehow Obama did all of this in two years or the mainstream media’s approach, which is, that everyone is equally to blame. It’s as if suddenly everyone is free to speak the truth. The Republicans created this mess and now they're not willing to do what needs to be done to fix it. I think that’s a big deal. I think we may be looking at the debacle of the great right wing conspiracy. The American Summer/Fall?
If I’m right there might be some interesting things to pay attention to in the Sunday talking heads dog and pony shows.
