By "our" I'm talking about Democrats, like me, who held out some hope that Obama was going to be a Democratic President. By "next move" I mean - honestly, anybody got any ideas?
I was having this conversation on Delawareliberal.net and a fellow Dem suggested that our problem is that we think we progressives are "the base" when in fact we not even in the same room as "the base." So I am kind of adrift right now.
I always thought that there would be some brilliant "reveal" and Obama 2008 would suddenly reappear on the scene. You'd have to be a fool to think that now. Obama is what he has always been a center right politician and I get that now.
God bless and good luck Mr. Obama. He is going to go ahead and do his thing and that is great, but I need something to do.
I started in the early days of the Dean campaign and I really thought that Obama was the heir to the re-establishment of a real Democratic Party. Obviously, I was wrong.
Maybe I was wrong about the possibility of a real Democratic party ever being re-established. We've gone so far down the road to perdition that the party of FDR, RFK and even Carter seems like a crazy pipe dream. As a country we are out of steam.
I read diaries about people moving to Europe. That sounds interesting. I don;t know what I would do. I guess start out like immigrants here. Finding something to put some bread on the table, building a toe hold and taking it from there. I honestly don't know.
Some friends are saying to concentrate on local races and write off the White House and Congress. That's a thought. anyway... What do you think?
What's our next move?
