Left before over ugly bullying. Came back because I couldn't quite believe what the party had come to. Now, I'm finally finished. I'm done trying to figure out why, I'm done listening to excuses, I'm no longer interested in exactly how the sellouts are rationalized.
This is no longer my party, and I figure I have a lot of company. Many will just go silent. I decided to explain.
My time and effort and money will go to specific candidates who I still can support. Most of them will be Democrats who voted no on the deficit bill. Others will be voices like Bernie Sanders who have the guts to stand up for the progressive values that made this nation a world leader. before we descended into the search for the fastest route to a plutocracy. The Congressional Black Caucus, for example, fought a good fight.
My online life will no longer include anything where people identify as Democrats.
What is unavoidable (and the determinant for me) is that what calls itself the Democratic Party under the current leadership is not my party. It is not a progressive party. And I can't pretend that it can be business-as-usual politics with this leadership and this President.
