I've made this mention several times before, that whenever a particularly contentious election or political event is coming up, the right-wing trolls POUNCE in force and suddenly seem to be everywhere.
Well, I'm seeing them again. They pretend to be liberal purists, but they spout right-wing trash talking points, use sock puppets to up and down-rate comments to their advantage, and essentially act like a cancer on the community.
I shouted down someone's very right-wing characterization of Obama as "dear leader" the other day. I was accused of threatening people, which also was a very right-wing tactic (run around slapping people's faces and then act like the victim when you're called out on it), and when I responded that the 'dear leader' talking point was right-wing trash, my comment was downmodded.
This is not the behavior of clear-minded people. This is the behavior of zealots who cannot tolerate being disagreed with. And uniformly these people seem to be going out of their way to denigrate the President at a time when we ALL need to stick together to push back on this right-wing assault on our nation.
Whether they believe it or not, they are doing nothing more than serving the goals of the far right. It is clear that Obama is not liked at all by conservatives, and that his choices aggravate them and make them crazy. When that starts spilling into the DKos community, we know that something is hitting a nerve over there.
What we've seen since the deficit showdown is a massive temper tantrum from the right wing, who are now going to be forced to engage in a public debate on the topic of military spending. As far as I am concerned, my President has these fuckers right where I want them. YES. DO. PLEASE discuss why we need to blow billions more on bombers that can't fly in the rain, or airplanes that even the Air Force doesn't really want. YES. PLEASE. DO. Because that discussion, happening right as the 2012 election heats up, will make the deficit/economy referendum on what IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE: Military spending and its considerable, inexcusable and way-out-of-proportion effect on our budget and especially our deficit. Why can we blow $10B on some program to make airplanes that only a handful of us will ever even see or touch, and which will only be used in muscular dick-waving efforts, and how come we can't afford to fix our fucking roads?
That is why the right is going berserk, and that's why I am calling this a major win for Obama. And that's why our site is currently swimming with right-wing trolls and their sockpuppets and enablers.
1:35 PM PT: UPDATE: Those clamoring for some kind of "proof" need only look at my tip jar. The number of hide ratings I've gotten for a diary that does not individually call out or insult anyone, does not push RW talking points, does not make racist slander or bigoted statements -- this ought to be demonstration enough that there is a toxic cloud floating around this site that cannot tolerate dissent.
