For those who may not recall, back during the G. H. W. Bush administration, Roseanne Barr was invited to sing the national anthem at a pro baseball game. She started the song, but as it progressed, it didn't go so well, which is understandable given that she's not a trained singer and the incredible range the song demands.
So as she stood embarrassed in front of the crowd, she made a snap decision. She figured, being a comedian, she'd turn it into a joke and intentionally sing (scream) the rest of the song. Talk about an error in judgement! All hell broke loose. She was lucky she made it out of the stadium uninjured. She recieved death threats. Poppy Bush called her a disgrace. It was a low, low time for Roseanne and her family.
Fast forward 21 years and Roseanne, now living on her own macadamia nut farm in the Hawaiian islands, and she is invited to sing the national anthem at a local girls softball game.
She wrestled with the idea. Should she do it? But what if it sucked again? But what if it didn't? He husband thought she should do it. Her kids, with vivd memories of the horrors of the past incident, thought she should not.
She called a friend who came to Hawaii to give her some coaching and she finally decided to do it, to try to redeem herself. And here's how it turned out.
Not perfect. Definite pitch problems at certain points, but all in all, not bad. I'm very impressed actually. It took a lot of courage to do it. Good for her. Not that she owed this to anyone. But I think it's cool that she did it.
Nothing political here and Kos says that's OK. And with all the bad, sad, scary shit day in and day out, I just thought this might be fun to share. Hope you enjoyed it.
