PPP just polled Vermont Democratic voters last week, pitting the President against Senator Sanders or against Governor Howard Dean.
He beats both of them handily. In Vermont. With Vermont Democratic voters.
I don't think we're getting a primary.

That said, if only very liberal voters showed up to the Vermont primaries ... Bernie would win handily, 50-38.
So, I have a cunning plan. I want the President to win the primary, at this point, but I'd be open to other candidates. Not Bernie, but maybe Ho-Ho.
Rather than trying to demoralize people about Obama here, which is only making moderates and 'somewhat liberal' (whatever that is, according to PPP) go over to other sites, why don't we decide we're going to promote the achievements of ONE challenger?
Obama has a host of sites that tout his accomplishments and show his videos. Blackwaterdog (although she has recently thrown in the towel for now ... hmmmm ...), White House site, the NYT front page, MSNBC, and even Current most of the time. That's a very tiny fraction. It's Obama all the time out there.
What if we DIDN'T talk about Obama at all?
What if we made this an anti-GOP policy site, which also promoted Howard Dean?
We could even go back and find some of the older diaries from 2004.
This is not snark. I am not being cute.
We could do this for any candidate we thought could beat Obama.
Let me explain, by the way, what the problem with Sanders is. Religion is not race. We had a half First Nations Vice President under Hoover. Bet you didn't know that. That's how I knew that if Obama could win a primary, he'd win a general.
But religion doesn't work that way. Al Smith had to clear the way for JFK. Michael Dukakis (also a non-Protestant, as an Eastern Orthodox individual) fell on his face.
If we lived in a world where Arlen Specter had gotten the GOP nomination in the 1990s, then Bernie would be cleared for take-off, even if Senators don't do well in matchups against governors. We might still get Rudy Giuliani on the GOP side?
But we don't. Someone has to put forward a Jew on their ticket first.
I am opening the floor to suggestions. I say Howard Dean, who has a bazillion terms as governor, and could probably beat anyone other than Perry. Maybe even Perry, particularly if he runs with Romney.
Oh, right ... we're not in the universe where Orrin Hatch was ever nominated for President. Remember that before you get too disspirited.
But we need ONE clear candidate, and then we focus all our efforts on this side to a complete shutout of anything positive or negative about Obama and backing that candidate 100%.
Go!
