I was born in 1943. My father and his brother, all the men in our family, were in the Second World War. My uncle was badly wounded and was held in British hospitals for a year after the war ended. My father was missing in the Pacific for some time. I have no conscious memories of these years.
I have been antiwar and progressive since i was 19. Recently I was speaking with a woman from South Africa. She said her mother was always talking about peace and anti war. And that it sometimes turned off her friends and family. I mentioned my World War II origins and she said her mother was born during the civil war in Zambia. Could it be that she and I are drawn to peace activism as a response to the early horror of war on our lives?
I am wondering, and asking the question, how many here are Daily Kos were born into familes immediately affected by war?
