I don't mind all the complaining. Obviously the angst of the last few months is palpable & I share it. I'm exhausted. This weekend was the worst yet, with the horrendous loss of life in the helicopter crash, the downgrade and the market tanking , and I think it's good that diarists on this site have a place to vent. It's cathartic.
I do mind stupidity, and this site is suffering from the stupid virus. Get this straight:
Obama is the Democratic nominee and you are not going to change that fact.
For those of you making your own reality, here's a set of facts you should remember:
President Obama is the first African American president of the United States. He received 97% of the African American vote. African Americans are 13% of the electorate. Generously considering 50% of the electorate to be Democratic voters, the African American electorate is at least 26% of the Democratic base vote.
No Democrat since Lyndon Johnson has carried the white vote.
Democrats cannot win a presidential election without the African American vote. Many, if not most, Democratic senators cannot win without the African American base voting for them.
And some of you think it would be a good idea to not renominate the first African American president?
You want to ditch him? Humiliate him before the whole world?
You do that, and then say good-bye to the Democratic party for a hundred years.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Please come back to reality. There's more to the 'base' than just you.
