Tonight I am sad. Sad for our country due to lack of leadership. Sad for our military with the latest tragedy out of the needless war in Afghanistan. Sad for the state of journalism that now covers Michelle Bachmann, but ignores the loss of teachers and the demise of our school system.
I am also very sad tonight because we had to put our dog down. She was an Animal Rescue League dog that was quickly adopted, by my wife, when our first dog died. Our new dog, Belle, was an abused dog that was used as a puppy machine. She was obviously treated poorly and shunned the affections of anyone male. She attached herself to my wife and gave this house a great companion.
Belle was here for me when I went down with Clinical Depression. That was six years ago, after the Postal Service had beaten me into the ground, and this dog would fetch tennis balls all day and all night. It was very good therapy. This dog was not interested in how my career was shattered by one unethical person putting me in a closet and throwing away the key. This dog was a life saver for me. Tonight is a sad night for many reasons.
