It's August Recess and your representative from Congress should be home for at least part of it.
Have you made an appointment to see him or her?
Have you attended a town hall?
Have you bird-dogged an event?
Have you dropped by the office?
This is the MCM open thread but we want to know if anybody at DailyKos is making visits? Let us know what you've learned and how you went about getting the appointment in the first place...
I know friends of mine in Texas scheduled meetings with the staff of Representative Lamar Smith (R). They held a honk and wave outside, in the stifling heat, met with the staff and shared concerns, and that they made the local news. Not half bad for those living in a very Republican area of the USA.
I can't make these visits from our current assignment overseas. So I have to live vicariously through you. Let me know what you're doing and how it's going! I really do want to know!
I especially want to know if anyone has asked about cuts to the military budget... if we have asked about specifics and if your representative will keep pay and benefit cuts off the table.
UPDATE FROM COMMENT BELOW BY Dr Erich Bloodaxe RN:
These are the members of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. The next subcommittee meeting is up on August 24th.
Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources Oversight Field Hearing on "American Jobs and Energy Security: Domestic Oil Shale the Status of Research, Regulation and Roadblocks."
Call or meet with them now to express your concerns over destroying our natural heritage and continuing to pollute the environment for generations to come by focusing on extraction and continued reliance on fossil fuels. Reject the Republican meme that disrupting more of America's remaining wilderness is necessary for 'job creation'.
