Karen Finney is currently, among other things, a commentator on MSNBC. I’m not sure if she is a member of DKos. I do suspect she, among many others, may monitor this site. Karen, I’m not expecting a personal response to this diary.
When I heard Chuck Todd wish her a happy birthday today, I wanted to add my wishes.
You can read more about Karen at the links provided below. I’ve always admired Karen Finney for her calm, intelligent and witty analysis of all things politic. She has served Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards. She has a remarkable personal story as a descendent of General Lee and a slave.
Please add your own well wishes in comments.

Karen most recently served for four years as the Spokeswoman and Director of Communications at the Democratic National Committee where she helped guide the DNC’s communications and media strategy for Howard Dean’s “50 State Strategy”, re-branding the Democratic Party, the successful 2006 Congressional elections and DNC strategy for the 2008 presidential campaign. Karen served in the Clinton White House as Deputy Press Secretary to then First Lady Hillary Clinton and as Deputy Director of Presidential Scheduling for President Clinton. Karen has also worked in a number of high-profile campaigns, including Hillary Clinton’s successful bid for the U.S. Senate as Press Secretary in 2000, and Director of Communications for Elizabeth Edwards during the Kerry/Edwards Presidential Campaign in 2004.

For me this is very personal. My father, who is African American, is from Virginia. The Finney name comes from the man who once owned my family as slaves. My mother, Mildred Lee, is the great, great, great niece of Robert E. Lee, or "the General," as he is referred to by my family. I am therefore the great, great, great, great niece of General Lee. That is my American story, a mixed race heritage that I am proud of, just as Virginia, the South and our country has a mixed history.
