Before I get to the commandments, is it possible for ANYONE to write a good diary about the President? Maybe I'm the only one left, but I still love the guy. He was in my state today, and answered every question with honesty and truthfulness and even a little vitrol that is rarely seen from him, but he was the Obama I elected and still want to be our President. Here's the news from the other side. I have heard enough about Michelle Bachmann to make me ill, but just because she got 4,500 votes in Ames, Iowa, she is the "frontrunner". My daughter goes to Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. School is out right now, and had it been in, 25,000 more people would have been in Ames, and an awful lot of them would NEVER vote for Bachmann. I wonder how she would react to the triple number of students that voted for her at the gay rights rally at ISU last year. I can tell you this, from my daughter, the Junior at Ames. She doesn't know ANYONE who is against the gay rights amendment that passed in Iowa, and there are a lot of kids who are really proud that they are going to school in Iowa right now, when Iowa did something so unbelievably cool. I have to admit that Iowa isn't the top ten of cool places to go to school, but now, it sort of is.
So, back to the tier of thugs that a lot of people here feel can beat Obama, and maybe should. Really? You REALLY want creationism taught in public schools? You really want abortions banned under any condition whatsoever? Let's look at them all and see how they stack up to the Democrat I am voting for in 2012. The other day, the GOP top tier announced their own ten commandments.
So, let's go back to the tier of rethugs that a lot of people here feel can beat Obama, and maybe should. Really? You REALLY want creationism taught in public schools? You really want abortions banned under any condition whatsoever? Let's look at all ten and see how they stack up against the Democrat I am voting for in 2012.
Here they are in all their "glory". (Pardon my comments, I just couldn't help myself)
(1) Smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s “stimulus” bill.
So, I guess Warren Buffett (read his op/ed in the NY Times this morning) will continue to pay his 17% tax rate along with all the millionaires running government right now. What they want is to take away all help for the poor, and as you all know the stimulus bill was nothing compared to the daily cost of having our troops conducting wars all over the world, and a few hundred dollars in some pockets meant a lot, but when you have millions, it is hard to understand that.
(2) Market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run healthcare; In other words, health care reform for the wealthy, and the poor, well, you are going to get nothing. Nothing personal, of course.
(3) Market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation; This one is really kinda funny. What they want is the end of the EPA so their rich friends who own companies can start dumping stuff into our rivers and lakes again, and fill the air with pollutants. Why can't us green people just go back to our bikes and tents and shut up. Plus, who cares about caribou, or spotted owls, or any animal that cannot carry a gun.
(4) Workers’ right to secret ballot by opposing card check
No more unions, we want to pay you less and buy ourselves a few more vacation homes and jets, so we really want to keep you from organizing in any way. That's OK, right?
(5) Legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants; Listen, we are fine if you work for us and we don't have to pay taxes and pay you under the table about ten bucks an hour, but if you want to live here, just because your grandparents came here, well, we're prejudiced, and we want to go back to pretty much being white. So, we'll hire you, but you can't stay if we get caught.
(6) Victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges; Seriously? VICTORY in Iraq and Afghanistan. That will never happen as long as these countries are controlled by tribes and they don't want us there, and we just need to leave. All we are doing right now is giving the Wahabi militants a good story to get poor, uneducated muslim kids to join up. Those U.S. people killed your family, you know that kind of thing. Never would they talk about who THEY killed, but that's a story for another day. We are not going to be victorious. WE MUST LEAVE. Sorry, but we need to. We need to leave there, and we need to get out of Germany, Japan, Italy, and who else have I forgotten?
(7) Containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat. Yea, that's a great idea. You have two wackos running two countries...did you hear that the head of North Korea played a round of golf and got a hole in one ON EVERY HOLE. That was on state TV there. They have a million man military, they are getting nuclear weapons, and the people there are starving to death. And, we cave in to the guy every time, because we feel bad for the starving people. Of course, if Rick Perry went there with his hidden gun (we won't go there) I am sure he would get Kim right in line in an hour or two. Be serious.
(8) Retention of the Defense of Marriage Act; Every time I read this, I crack up, thinking about asking the congress to stand up if they have NEVER cheated on their wives, never been divorced, never had any kind of sexual encounter -- oh, and yes, Larry "wide stance" Craig, same sex encounters DO count. (They would ALL remain seated.) Fifty percent of the people in this country that get married, get divorced. Maybe we could actually bring that number DOWN by allowing people that love each other to live together as they want. As Keith Olbermann once said, what does it matter to you? How could you possibly care that two people that love each other want to marry. The Bachmann's want this because they have a little company set up to COUNSEL YOU TO GO STRAIGHT. Never mind that you are born that way, it is money in the pocket, isn't it Michelle? No people have actually signed up and have become straight from their company, but I am certain that once they find out that someone as against homosexuality as Michelle is, is running this, the cretins will be running to your doors.
(9) Protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; This one may be my favorite one just because of the hypocracy of it. Isn't the GOP BASED on less government and LESS intrusion into personal lives? You have NO right whatsoever no matter who you are to tell a woman of any age what to do with a zygote. That is her personal business and it would be just awesome if you got on the bandwagon with gun control as much as you are trying to keep women from doing something that has NOTHING to do with you. I also think that if you demand that women have to watch some insipid movie before she aborts that ten of you have to sign up to take the unwanted children home with you. You want kids to have these kids? THAT IS NUTS. So, for every one of you that is so crazy about this, I have an idea...adopt those kids.
(10) The right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership. Gosh, Rick, wonder where this came from? I don't have the numbers in front of me, but in England you cannot have firearms, except for hunting. Their numbers of murders compared to ours are staggering. By the way, their cops don't even have guns. Wouldn't that be a wonderful world? The GOP supports the idiotic NRA with all their heart and soul, and think that Planned Parenthood is an evil, terrible organization. Just think about that for a second. How many unwanted children are aborted by women as compared to how many murders are committed by kids with crazy guns that can shoot 100 bullets a minute or something, the NRA insist we have.
So, that's it. And, that's why I'm supporting Barack Obama and Joe Biden. After reading this, I love those guys all over again. Join me, won't you?
