Representative Allen West (R FL) must think that American Muslims are Nazis.

That's pretty much the take away from his response to the early August, 679-word letter sent by Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) asking him to "cut ties with "anti-Islamic extremists" he often shares a stage with.

He responded with "Nuts."  Yes that's it, see below.

West's response to this reasonable request maybe,

"We believe it might be the dumbest thing ever written on congressional stationary."

But it's also illustrative of how Rep Allen West feels about American Muslims, America, and himself.

This the the famous one word response by General Anthony McAuliffe at the Battle of the Bulge when Nazi's demanded that he surrender.

On December 22, 1944, through a party consisting of a major, a lieutenant, and two enlisted men under a flag of truce that entered the American lines southeast of Bastogne (occupied by Company F, 2nd Battalion, 327th Glider Infantry), General von Lüttwitz sent the following ultimatum to Gen. McAuliffe:

To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne.

The fortune of war is changing. This time the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. More German armored units have crossed the river Our near Ortheuville, have taken Marche and reached St. Hubert by passing through Hompre-Sibret-Tillet. Libramont is in German hands.

There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note.

If this proposal should be rejected one German Artillery Corps and six heavy A. A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the U.S.A. troops in and near Bastogne. The order for firing will be given immediately after this two hours term.

All the serious civilian losses caused by this artillery fire would not correspond with the well-known American humanity.

    The German Commander.

For the retired lieutenant colonel, Allen West,  to respond in such a manner suggests not only that he views the American Muslim community as Nazis and that they are laying siege to America, but also that he's General Anthony McAuliffe.

One Muslim upon reading the report from Riptide 2.0 that appeared on CAIR's Facebook feed said:

The missing first 2 words are "I am ..."

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
