We're liveblogging the results of the final two Wisconsin recalls. The candidates are below:
• SD-12: Jim Holperin (D-inc) vs. Kim Simac (R)
• SD-22: Bob Wirch (D-inc) vs. Jonathan Steitz (R)
Results: AP | Journal Sentinel
6:45 PM PT: Food for thought from PPP's Tom Jensen:
But I think there's a certain segment of voters in Wisconsin — somewhere around 10% of the population — that is generally opposed to the concept of recalls regardless of how they feel about how things are going in the state. We've seen that in the State Senate recalls so far — the polls have universally moved in the closing days in favor of the incumbents, both Democratic and Republican. When folks get off the fence they're tending to vote anti-recall.
6:54 PM PT: With 22% of the vote counted, Holperin leads 52-48, but as I was saying in the first thread, he's swung the vote in his direction quite a bit from the Prosser-Kloppenburg supreme court race.
6:57 PM PT: Meanwhile, in SD-22, Bob Wirch trails 55-45 with 16% of the vote counted. He outperformed the supreme court results in Racine, but is currently underperforming KloJo in Kenosha.
7:04 PM PT: Holperin's lead has shrunken a bit, but he's still up 10 — and districtwide, he's doing about 10 or so points better than Kloppenburg (who lost the district 45-55).
7:09 PM PT: Here we go: Kenosha (keep that bookmarked) just reported a new batch of results. Wirch is now on top there, 51-49, which means he leads overall.
