Keeping tabs on antiwar organizations.
I am presented with a stack of documents, most related to the September 11 air piracy attacks, but also including considerable highly redacted evidence that the FBI has been keeping tabs on antiwar groups.
You can see the documents at http://www.scribd.com/... The good part starts near page 62.
You've heard about FISA investigations...spying on American citizens? Here you get to see what one looks like. [MORE BELOW FOLD]
You may view AntiWar.com as a central part of the antiwar movement, in which case "A scan of the Electronic Case File revealed numerous documents for [REDACTED] and AntiWar.com." may fill you with alarm.
Your may have other views on AntiWar.com, in which case perhaps you are happy that the FBI is spying on them. Just don't be surprised when the next Republican administration sends the FBI to spy on you and our fellow liberal troublemakers like DailyKos.
A few other choice quotes
"File (serial number in original) indicated that on 10.27/2003 a special agent reviewed the computer hard drives siezed during the investigation of [REDACTED] The review of two hard drives revealed visits to many web sites...one of the websites lsited was antiwar.com."
That's right. If some rightwwing antiabortion terrorist is reading Daily Kos, Daily Kos falls under suspicion. I'll let you guess whether the FBI is also interested in visits to progressive web sites.
And we get on to "A [REDACTED] search for [REDACTED] was negative."
The FBI is also interested in revealed thoughtcrimes. To quote"A search in the News and Business section of Lexis Nexis revealed numerous articles regarding [REDACTED] and www.antiwar.com. Six articles were selected for inclusion in this assessment."
There's not a word on secret criminal intents here. The FBI is watching anyhow. If you don't like antiwar.com, you may still be a target of FBI surveillance. "On www.jdl-ny.com, a harsh criticism of www.anti.com was posted..."
But you, too may be among the watched:
"...There are several unanswered questions regarding www.antiwar.com. It describes itself as a non-profit group that survives on generous contributions from its readers. Who are these contributors and what are the funds utilized for?..."
and the closing recommendations
"It is recommended that ECAU further monitor the postings on antiwar.com."
That's right. We defend your freedom of the press, which is why we didn't tell you that Big Brother is keeping an eye on you. Someone had to sue us to find out.
If you didn't find that chilling enough. Consider an alternative phrase in a possible alternative FBI report: "...There are several unanswered questions regarding DailyKos.
It has contributors. Who are these contributors?..."
The rest of the 90 pages of SCRIBD papers is a thorough and detailed investigation of a very unpromising direction.
