This diary is an extended comment on Raising the Medicare eligibility age is expensive: An article discussing an adjustment to Medicare eligibility that would remove people from the Medicare system and place them into the waiting arms of the private insurance sector.
This diary is also an extension on my quest to formalize "Medicare Buy In" as the politically and economically proper address to the CURRENT political economy. The swooning over "Single Payer" and "Medicare For All" does not address the political realities while "Medicare Buy In" does. The single most important political reality of "Medicare Buy In" is that it DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY NEW TAXES OR DEBT. As such it is not an increase to the deficit and can actually be shown to REDUCE THE DEFICIT.
The referenced article discusses exactly what should be understood about Medicare: It is far more beneficial for government to provide medical insurance than it is for the private sector to do so. And "Medicare Buy In" will absolutely prove that fact even to the dumbest knuckle dragging Bubba the world has ever seen. All that is necessary is for the Senate to call on the GAO or the CRS to produce a factual report on the subject and the deal is done. I say the Senate because the Senate is the only branch of the congress that is still sane. The morons in the House are not about to commission a non partisan analysis on the subject. It is unknown as to whether the executive branch of government can call upon the GAO to produce the study. But assuming that such is the case then Obama is also failing in his duty to INFORM the American people of the REALITIES surrounding health care costs.
The term monopsony needs to be understood here.
