Never posted before so I thought I'd try it and share a funny experience I had from back in the 1970s.
Ever been on a TV series?
I was an 'extra' for about 10 seconds on this show:
Movin' On
Movin' On starred Claude Akins as old-time independent "big-rig" trucker Sunny Pruitt, and Frank Converse as his college-educated co-driver Will Chandler. The theme song, "Movin' On", was written and performed by Merle Haggard, and was a No. 1 single on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart in July 1975.
I was working in downtown Norfolk, Va. and we had heard a TV show was filming an episode of the TV Series Movin' On about a block away from my job. So a few of us asked the boss if we could go check it out.
My friend, Jackie and I were standing on the sidelines excitedly gawking when a producer-type-person came up to us and asked us if we'd be street walkers in the background. We were both in our early 20s, mini-skirts and hot pants were the norm back then (though I didn't think we looked like street walkers, but..)
We jumped at the chance. Were given 25.00 each and told what to do, and informed that Claude Aiken would be running in a chase scene, pushing people out of the way as he headed to a Mission Building.
Well, the camera man was on a track beside the sidewalk..Action was yelled, and Jackie and I are trying to strut a bit and giggling calling ourselves Salt and Pepper (she was black) our street names, when all of a sudden sure enough, Claude Aikens pushes his way between us , saying excuse me, as he run past us and into the door of the Mission Building. It was a wrap.
We were then told approximately when that show would be on TV, about a month from then.
On the day of the show we had a party with a bunch of family and friends, really filled with anticipation. Our scene was in the opening scene of this particular episode and sure enough we all see Claude Aiken in close up starting to run down the street and then the scene continues being filmed from the TOP OF A High Office Building!
Needless to say, the scene happened so fast, filmed from up high and there was no way to see us! That was before VHS, pause buttons etc.
That was my blip moment of fame. LOL! But back then 25.00 was a big deal.
Anyone else with a fun TV experience to share?
