I just saw a status post on my Favebook account about NYC Mayor Bloomberg saying that "due to space constraints" there would be no room for 9/11 First Responders (NYPD & NYFD) at this year's 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks at the WTC site.
I confirmed this with Snopes (Snopes article). This is beyond disgusting!
What's worse, checking on Huffington Post, MSNBC and other news outlets, I saw absolutely no mention of this by the media. As the status post said, these people weren'y invited the first time either, but they came anyway. Maybe they should do the same thing again.
According to Mayor Bloomberg's office, they are "more focused on accomodating victim's family members". Well, news flash for you, Mr. Mayor, but a lot of the people who died that fateful day in those towers WERE First Responders! What about THOSE victims' families?
4:34 PM PT: Update 1: I did say in my diary that this was not being covered by the media, well that is inaccurate. It IS, in fact, being covered but I think that it still needs more coverage. These folks put their lives on the line with no regard for their own personal safety. To tell them 10 years later that there's no room for them is a slap in the face! Ten years ago, every last one of us was a New Yorker, a Pentagon employee and a passenger on United Airlines Flight 93!
