I posted yesterday as the storm was beginning to hit. Now she is leaving, not quite gone yet if you see the ongoing wind gusts, but she is leaving to wreak her havoc north of us. We, Persiflage and I, had a long and sleepless night, and we are tired. Under the lovely squiggly I share our experience.
So, when I logged off we lost power shortly after. We finally got it back this afternoon at about 2:30 PM. Woot! Power!
My hubby, Persiflage, and I didn't sleep well, with all the wind noise and so forth, and awakened around 3 AM to absolute silence. He went out on our porch, came back in and said he figured it must be over, it was so quiet. I told him to hang on, the eye was 20-60 miles wide. Sure enough, the winds picked up again in the opposite direction. These winds were worse and beat the ever loving crap out of us.
We had no power nor phone but still had water and sewer, a blessing! We did without all of those for two weeks when we lived on the Florida gulf coast during Opal, 1995.
Mid morning I told Persiflage I figured this mofo was NEVER going to end. It is still gusty at 6 PM. But it is over. And we have power. Better yet, my 88 and 90 year old parents are safe, have power and dinner I made them. We are so thankful. Thankful for all the goodness we have.
So, to any of you in this storm's path, pay attention and don't put yourself at risk. This storm is mean, prolonged and water logged. Listen to what officials tell you and act on it. The wind in this one won't kill you, although you might think it will, but the water will do the job.
Be safe, listen, pay attention and then act on the advice from the officials. Remember, this storm is the size of Texas. Sorry for the Perry reminder.
