Seattle. August 31, 2011.
Twelve years I've been visiting the wetland. For twelve winters I've heard Pacific Chorus Frogs singing there, and yet this year is the first I've seem them. Maybe I just wasn't looking in in the right places, but this year they're everywhere.
August 30, 2011. Pacific Chorus Frog
The temperature was cooler on Tuesday, which may have made them a bit sluggish and less wary. On most visits the ones closest to the shore hop away as soon as they become aware of my presence. This one posed quietly for a number of close ups, then obligingly jumped onto my hand when I reached out to it. Its toes were cool on my skin, with a tiny sticky sensation when it changed position. It was a bit over an inch long and looked directly at my face for a good minute before hopping back into cover.
August 30, 2011. Many Pacific Chorus Frogs are visible in the wetland.
