I hope you don't mind my saying so, but I'm a little bit tired after all the completely unprecedented moments (whereby Boehner refuses to return the President's phone calls or attend a calling of the entire Congress to attend a national speech by the President of the United States) is now being called, over and over again, President Obama as the only 'Adult in the Room.'
What could be more important than a national speech on 'Jobs' in our nation? Oh, right, the Fox News Republican Debate with Rick Perry (aka George Bush without the charm) and the rest of the tea bagger crazies. Or of course, the kick off for the Foot Ball Season. Let's get our priorities in order Americans: Dancing with the Stars, Dancing with Rick Perry/Michele Bachman/ Dancing with the National Football League.
Relationships work the same way: regardless of Congress/the President, Husband and Wives, Partners/to Partners, children and their parents, Bosses and employees,: You may disagree with this, but it has to do with boundaries and respect for yourself and for your values. I welcome that debate.
If this latest cave by President Obama were not an extended part of his Modus Operandi, perhaps I could swallow it whole. But I'm over that now.
This is a pattern, that has nothing to do with President Obama being the only 'adult in the room.'
It has to do with his own inability to be confrontational and to show true leadership when it is needed most. This is what leaders do. They define themselves with the values, the visions, the definitive part of who their souls are all about. President Obama cannot seem to find that part of himself, but that is not our duty. That is not our fight.
We follow our leaders for many reasons. Mainly because they give us a 'road map' that we can follow. Only there is no 'road map,' and there is no vision. Regardless of what 50 to 70 percent of the American people are screaming for: No one is listening.
We want to end the endless wars.
We want to rebuild our manufacturing base, and to bring jobs home.
We want a fair and equitable Heath Care Program, that will not keep our insurance rates, and prescriptions to keep us in the poor house.
We want a fair and equitable Wall Street reform package, that wants a return to Glass-Stegall, to protect home buyers, and protect States rights, and make the fucking Bankers, do the criminal perp walk, to stop the robo-signing.
So here is a clue: there is nothing wrong with the Democrats in this nation, except for the fact that the Democratic Platform should have be re-written about 3 or 4 years ago. There is nothing wrong with our values, as Americans, as Democrats, Independents or Libertarians. The reason we are not sure about what 'lizard suit' to put on, is clear. It has nothing to do with President Obama's race. It has to do with his policies and the destruction of the Democratic Platform, and the Labor Movement in our nation.
It has to do with fire in the belly, that will lead us all back to believing what we all know we need to believe in: The American worker, the American Dream, the American Big Tent, to rebuild our nation and it's manufacturing base, and jobs, regardless of race, creed, religion, or color, or sexual preference. But where is the road map? There is no road map, because we have no real leadership.
I am very tired of apologizing for that, for apologizing for what the Democratic Party Platform used to stand for. Now I'm not sure what that is. Are you?
Oh right: crickets. Got it.
Thanks as always, Ms. B.
