I had to remove the links. I now have grave doubts.
I'm going to be brief. In my previous post, I talked about some friends of mine who have fallen on hard times and trying to keep body and soul together.
They're good people. Of course, having great principles and ideals doesn't necessarily make you a friend, or whatever, but...they are.
But now things have improved----tentatively, for right now---for one person.
But another person, a veteran, is still in bad shape and needs help.
I'm going to be brief---and blunt.
They need help. I can't do much myself because, I'm living on my VA disability pay, which the VA kindly seized entirely last month because they had found an accounting error from 2007 that needed to be fixed. Immediately. All at once. I guess I should be glad they didn't seize what savings I have along with withholding the entire check.
9th (the name comes from the name of a historic regiment) has an LJ, but it's mostly locked because as a service member he might face some blowback. Diva, his fiancee, also has an Lj, and it's . 9th (his real name begins with a G, so that's how I'll refer to him from now on) is a good-ole fashioned Southern liberal, soft spoken but trained and used to fighting, and just not scared of very many things. But they've been having horrible shit happen all this year, some of which they don't want to discuss publicly, so I'll have to respect that. Diva's got maybe a little unemployment coming. But G's been looking for work for months and keeps smacking up against that bewildering employment rate for veterans----or, you know, unemployment rate.
Which makes me puzzled. Wouldn't you want a hard-charging, hard-working, professional, does-his-job-and-then-says "Please sir, I'd like some more?", worker? Somebody who takes pride in getting more done in one day than ordinary humans get done in a week? There just aren't any jobs out there. They've exhausted their savings. And for some reason, people are hiring veterans less than they're not hiring other people---the unemployment rate for vets is at least four or five percent higher than it is for civilians.
And then you factor in that G volunteers as a reserve police officer with his local department, which means that during Irene he was putting his life on the line.....for free.
Anything would be helpful at this point. Anything. A few bucks here and there from a lot of people would make the difference. Hell, if a couple thousand people donated a buck or two via paypal, that would make it for them for months. At this point, I worry about their food supplies, except G's done some serious stuff in the service so I know he's still got some MREs around.
Please. I don't know if I need to point this out, but I'm not getting anything for this, though I may be biased because they're fellow liberals, and they don't laugh at me for drooling over tiny houses and tiny horses all the time.
G's a veteran, and some of the difficulty they're facing is due to the fact that people don't want to hire vets, even though at least one theatre is cycling down and thereby reducing the risks of multiple deployments.
I don't benefit from this, or profit by it, or anything like that. But I just hate to see other vets suffer, and when it's a vet I've come to know and respect, it's so much worse.
Diva's paypal is the one they use, so here it is: thedivalaments at gmail dot com. Please help these two. A buck or two at a time will do wonders.
I know everybody's facing hard times, but....a buck or two from a lot of people can move mountains. I have literally had to buy food for friends as this recession has continued. I don't get why people don't realize that unemployment benefits and things like welfare help everybody----that money goes right into the local economy. We shouldn't have to do this. What kind of civilized nation leaves its citizens in this state? We all benefit when other people are doing better.
Please help.
