You know, I’ve never written a diary like this before, but sometimes people here rub me the wrong way. Consider it my rant for the year despite it being worth little.
You know what pisses me off more than anything in this place? No, it isn’t the pie fights, or the trolls, or the cliques. It is the self-righteous moral police on this site. It gets old, and I would like to think most of us here don’t require the services of those self-appointed folks to help us decide what is wrong or right about a diary or comment. Thank you very much.
Case in point is a diary just put up by former Congressman Grayson entitled:
I Told Newt He Looks Fat
Juvenile? Sure. Maybe not appropriate? Debatable. Don’t like it? Click off of it and go to another diary more suited to your personal tastes. There is plenty here to offend and plenty here to celebrate. But stuff like this is unnecessary in my opinion:
I'm sorry to see you do this (7+ / 0-)
Yes, I like it that you fight for progressive bills. But as far as insults go: please leave that to Colbert...and us.
Yes, Mr. Gingrich deserves to be insulted but I'd rather you not waste your political talent in this manner.
Instead spend your time explaining how might push progressive bills forward.

Telling him not to insult someone but then saying it is OK for us to do it? Huh?? Last time I checked he is one of "us". And telling a man how to behave?
Instead spend your time explaining how might push progressive bills forward.
Really?? Who the hell are you? Who the hell are any of us really? I think Grayson made it just fine without your moral judgments about his behavior or character. He certainly made it without mine. And by the way Newt is a big boy. He can take it and frankly has dished out much worse than a fat joke proffered by Mr. Grayson and fired in his direction. But tsk-tsk’ing his diary?? Please. Our country is coming apart and this is the best we can muster? Taking a former Congressman to task for a fat joke? Wow.
Funny thing is I found the diary as inane as many of you did, but this self-righteous piling on with commentary about how shocking it is that he “bragged” about it is just as phony as the name calling many engage in here about Bachmann or Boehner. Where is the self-righteous indignation then? It seems people get their knickers in a twist at opportune moments then let other examples slide. It reeks of hypocrisy, and I myself have been guilty of it. But we cannot pick and choose when it is OK and when it isn’t.
Many of our community here have no issue referring to the physical and mental characteristics of the opposing party with impunity and encouragement by people here. You know that is true. Where are many of you currently upset by Mr. Grayson's diary when that behavior is taking place?
Don't attempt to say that it is all right to do that but then try to hold Mr. Grayson, or any of us, to a different standard when it is convenient for the pile-on.
Mr. Grayson should know better. That I agree with. But wouldn’t it have been more simple to either walk away from the diary or not recommend it? Don’t you have anything better to do than police a rather stupid blunder?
