On September 30, 2011 the people of the United States will gather online and in small gatherings around the United States to carry out an intervention: help us tell our friend Jon Huntsman, Jr. that he's not really a Republican: he's just a conservative Democrat--and not all that conservative at that.
We're a small group of Jon Huntsman, Jr.'s friends, and frankly we're a little concerned about our friend. He's bright, handsome, well-dressed, well educated, and wealthy. He has a distinguished career of public service, including being U.S. ambassador to China (he's even fluent in the Chinese language!)
Jon's a special guy with lots going for him, so you can imagine our surprise when we found out that he's been hanging out with people who deny basic scientific concepts like evolution and global warming. Jon's new "friends" even applauded Rick Perry's appalling record when it comes to the death penalty (Rick Perry executed an innocent man and then interfered with an investigation to cover up what he'd done).
We're as shocked as you are to find out that our friend Jon Huntsman, Jr. had fallen in with such a despicable bunch of lowlifes, so we're planning an intervention. We're confident that as soon as we confront Jon with the facts and our feelings about what happened in California on September 7, 2011 at the Reagan Library, that Jon will realize that he's really a conservative Democrat at heart.
After all, Jon is in favor of same sex civil unions and evolution, and there are still a lot of Democrats who oppose those kinds of things. Let's face it: Jon's a Democrat, and we think that if we confront him gently in a non-judgemental way he'll embrace his inner-rationalist and leave the anti-social behaviors espoused by the Republican Party far behind him.
On September 30, 2011 help us say "come back Jon, we miss you."
If you'd like to join Jon's friends as we try to "welcome him back," then go to our Facebook page and RSVP. We'll be posting more details as the day gets closer. And be sure to spread the word by inviting your friends. The more of Jon's friends that confront him (gently) with the truth then the sooner he'll come to his senses.
