I know, I know. We all have to take polls with a grain of salt. Having said that, it's worth pointing out that Obama's approval rating, while still negative, has jumped twelve points in twelve days. The President has gone from a low point in Gallup polling on August 26-29 of 38% approve, 55% disapprove to today's numbers (based on polling from 9/7-9/9) of 43% approve, 48% disapprove.
Insert all the usual caveats here. I get it, we should all get it. But, going from -17 to -5 is real movement, in an apples to apples comparison. To be fair, there is no such similar movement in the other daily tracking poll, from our friends at Rasmussen.
I put it out there. Do with it what you will. Enjoy your Saturday.
UPDATE: FWIW, the margin of error for the Gallup poll is +/-3%.
UPDATE 2: There is some debate below about whether these numbers represent a 12 point jump (i.e., approve minus disapprove of -17 going to -5), or simply a 5 point jump in approval, or maybe a 6 point "average" jump because the approval number went up 5 and the disapproval went down by 7, and the average of the is 6. Either way, the raw data is in the diary, so take it for what you will.
